Tested Positive for Type A & B Flu
It’s Friday, January 3, 2020. I have a 9 AM appointment with the doctor today. I have a bad right earache as well as equilibrium issues. My right tonsil feels like it is swollen. My guess is the issues are related to my testing positive for Flu A & B last Friday.
That’s right I tested positive for flu A & B. I had a flu shot in September 2019. I thought that would have me safe. Wrong. I learned (to my horror) I could still catch the flu. The flu shot doesn’t protect from all strains of the flu virus.
Challenges
One of the worst parts of being a widower is dealing with two sides of the same challenge. First, I have to deal with being sick by myself. The second challenge requires me to say no to the offer of help from the romantic interest, church friends, and other friends.
I turn down the church friends help because it needs to be reserved for those in worse shape than me. Past experience has had them offer meals and then provide gift cards. While gift cards are thoughtful if I (or my loved one) was well enough to go get the food ourselves, we wouldn’t need their help.
Concerning refusing help from a romantic interest, I feel care at this level is a spousal function, and I’m not yet ready to move to that level.
Lastly, I have no problem letting my adult child help as they have availability. I did it for my parents. I promise to not overuse or abuse their assistance.
I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings and kindly decline help I may need but don’t want. Sometimes solitude is required by this introvert.
So, I now deal with being sick.
From My Morning Devotion
From my morning devotion — Father, when we face various trials, give us the courage to bring them before Your Throne of Grace. Bring to our minds anything we need to confess that may be hindering us from experiencing the peace of Your Love and Presence. Draw us near and teach us how to trust in Your perfect love — for Your perfect love casts out all fear. Amen.
And life goes on, one day at a time.
